Straightening your hair in a safe and easy way

By Thomas Walsh

The task of straightening hair is not really that hard, but if you're not careful you run the risk of doing damage to it. Damges or burns to your hair generally takes a long time to recover. If you follow these simple steps you can have smooth, straight hair without running the risk of damaging it!

The most important thing to be able to straighten your hair successfully, is to choose the right hair straightener. If your hair is long, you should look for a straightener with broad plates that will allow you to straighten large sections of your hair at once. This will speed up the process. For shorter hair, you should find a flat iron with more narrow plates, so that you can easily straighten the smaller parts of your hair.

To achieve the perfect result with your hair straightening, you should also adjust the heat setting of your flat iron according to what type of hair you have. For thicker hair, use more heat, and for finer hair, less heat. This will prevent you from straining your unnecessarily.

Next step is preparing your hair, ahead of the straightening. Wash it with a volumizing shampoo and use a mousse which protects your hair from heat. Blow dry, and then brush it with a natural bristle brush. You should make sure you hair is dry before you start straightening, as it's never wise to apply that much heat to wet hair.

Now we're ready to start straightening the hair. The first step would be to divide your hair into sections for easier handling. Make sure your flat iron is preheated and then start straightening you hair, section by section. Start close to the roots and slide the plates down your hair at a steady pace. Work your way through the sections until you have straightened them all. Apply some hair spray to fix your look, and some shine spray for a glossier look.

If you straighten your hair using these basic tips you will get straight, beautiful hair, without risking to damage or burn it in the process.
