Both Green Tea And Black Tea Come From The Same Plant

Did you know that green and black tea come from the same source? Even while the colors differ, they both are generated from a plant named camellia sinensis. Teas are labeled as one of the healthiest drinks and both black and green teas are beneficial to health. Just how are they different and more importantly which tea offers more health benefits in comparison to the other?

Because tea is a drink, we will review the two teas from a taste perspective. Which beverage is tastier is an individual choice; having said that green tea offers more of a bitter flavor compared to black tea. Black tea possesses a richer taste than green tea. Even prior to tasting the drink, color distinguishes the two teas. The colors differ due to the tea processing. Both teas undergo almost same processing besides the oxidation process. Green tea's first dehydrating operation is a short procedure of panning or steaming which diminishes oxidation. On the other hand, black tea goes through a full oxidation process which uses up to 3 hours. This procedure is the main reason why the color is darker and flavor is richer. Precisely what does that translate into relating to health benefits?

Leaves of camellia sinensis are naturally green as with any other plant. When it relates to food, one that is more processed typically loses more of its organic ingredients. The same thinking also applies to tea leaves. Retaining the color green implies it will have more of the natural element, catechin.

Catechins are the active substance found in the tea leaves. They are source for benefits like weight loss, bad cholesterol, cancer prevention and heart disease. Scientific studies have shown that a cup of green tea offers eight times more catechins than black tea. Theoretically, you would need to intake eight more cups of black tea than green tea to get the equivalent quality of positive effects.

There have been a lot of scientific studies on the health benefits related to black tea. Many lab studies were successful against diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer. This highlights the recovery ability of camellia sinensis. Regardless of what form of operation it applies, the tea leaves are still helpful to human body. But it makes sense to intake the tea which has more of the active substance. So why not begin adding green tea to your daily diet.
